Yet what you are saying is a VERY LIMITED choice of hardware combinations is what is needed to fix a problem that the VAST MAJORITY of people don't have.
You're assuming the following:
• The "issue" itself (it's always a vague, snake oil unobtainable unicorn), which can be absolutely anything
• The sample size of users which have the issue (blurbusters input-lag section is filled with trolls/misinformation sources and it's a small sample size compared to the entire population of competitive players)
• The sample size of users which are aware of the issue (psychologically / physically)
• The severity of the ""issue"" on general experience during competitive gaming (assuming the ""issue"" refers to power quality related topics)

You do realise that the intersecting subset between IMC instability ("RAM instability") & EMI-related issues (be it power quality - capacitive, conductive, switching noise from either the network or in-house devices themselves) are similar, if not equal, in terms of symptoms present to the end-users, right?

Are you saying it's logical to assume that that the vast majority of gamers have the correct combination of hardware simply by chance?.
Yes, this is perfectly possible. It's a non-zero chance :)
BumFlannel wrote: ↑

Or that the majority of gamers are perfectly aware of your "secret sauce" of hardware combinations while we are not?
No, they aren't aware. That's a trivial claim for me to put out when it's obvious. Variance within units (PSU,GPU,CPU) exists.
BumFlannel wrote: ↑

There is only one PSU on the market where you won't get these issues? And you say you aren't spreading bullshit.
Again, what issues? I don't know how everyone is able to confidently claim it's a particular ambiguous term called "THE ISSUE"?
Until he has a solid foundation by having good hardware choices, he cannot do any further troubleshooting attempts.
For all I know, he could've had 7 bad HW choices or completely terrible software tuning practices which lead to his issue.
Not to mention that esports games are constantly updated & you cannot have a equal testing environment in them.
BumFlannel wrote: ↑

The problem randomly being fixed at times where you can blatantly see, feel, and experience for some uncertain amount of time, a night and day difference
Those can be attributed to psychological & physiological factors as well, if you aren't aware of that :)
Though, the latter one is present, as you're at the mercy of your routing when it comes to online gameplay.

(and don't give me the placebo bs, that word is overused and misused in this topic 99.9% of the time and the other 0.1% of the time is just assumption that placebo is even at play),
Placebo is a possible explanation, don't see a problem in mentioning it.

is it that what you deem to be an inferior hardware combination(which appears to be almost all hardware combinations available somehow, i'd love see your budget and testing methodology that shows this to be true) suddenly deciding to be competant of its own volition across the board for a while, even though it should never be capable of that due to inferiority?
I have no idea what you've written here...
I simply suggested the OP to have a good baseline foundation before attempting any severe changes, such as moving out or attempting to fix any power quality issues.
BumFlannel wrote: ↑

It's clear you're trying to appear to have a superior intellect while you just come across as having a superiority complex.
Not at all, I just think it's ridiculous that no one here wants to solve anyone's issue but only run around in circles without providing concrete steps to solve anything
To be specific, the user you're trying to defend has been shown 1st party resources on how to tackle troubleshooting on Windows, yet refuses to read either out of stubborness or inability to comprehend the language, at least from my view :)

read any graphics programming book?
What? In my case the answer is yes, but why are you even asking this question. It has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
That question wasn't aimed at you, unless this is your alt account? :D
It does, all of these total system latency & outside latency topics require in-depth knowledge in:
• Electrical engineering
• Computer architecture & systems
• Programming (kernel, graphics etc.)
Users who aren't aware of it shouldn't give any concrete suggestions. :)
BumFlannel wrote: ↑

Of course it's not fun to play under those conditions. But to go back and test on old hardware and see that everything is more responsive and coherent despite these limitations confirms there is actually and issue and brings it to the forefront. You make out like you are all about the science, yet you are poopooing a legimate testing method here.
OK, that was the "fix" for your "issue" (assuming you had a issue to begin with, even though that there's still the possibility of not knowing the exact reason behind "the issue")
That does not automatically translate onto every possible user that comes here, as the symptoms for the vast majority of PC-related issues are vague in nature?
Even if it does, do you understand that you're asking the user to completely change his entire life around to have "good feel", while he may be having simple HW instability issues?
It's akin to a coming to a doctor and coming with a "oh it hurts here" (pointing to a random place) complaint.
BumFlannel wrote: ↑
01 Jan 2026, 08:01
Why don't you give people actual proof of what you are claiming.
What "proof"? That CS2 is a unoptimized mess when you want to play at usable frame rates (+500FPS) & that modern hardware is botched due to the severe overclocking done out of the box, making it easy for the user to incorrectly configure his hardware & thus lead to system performance regression such as the symptoms OP has outlined?
The OP asked for troubleshooting steps, I gave him what I think is a rational starting point.
BumFlannel wrote: ↑
01 Jan 2026, 08:01
Oh, you can't, because you haven't tested every possible hardware combination even though you claim to know the majority of it is inferior.
I don't think it's inferior, I think they're a good starting step, as most hardware components available to the consumer are borderline scams.
It's about minimizing variance / bottlenecks from hardware picks...
BumFlannel wrote: ↑
01 Jan 2026, 08:01
As i said above, show your testing methodology, your results, and I'd also be interested to know your budget to be able to achieve this. To me is sounds more like you don't have any issues so you've deemed your hardware combination to be the "correct combination".
Achieve what, exactly?
You seem to be suggesting that OP's issue is rooted in power quality, while I think that those endeavours are fruitless if there's a chance that his hardware can be the bottleneck at hand.
Not to mention external factors, rooted in physiology change throughout the day & years as well :)

Hypocritical.
Considering how much I've been providing to these forums in terms of information & data, which gets burried within countless of genuine disinformation (not misinformation) posts, how exactly am I "hypocritical"? :D

I'll even do it simpler, as users seem to inferring negative things out of my posts.

My suggestion would cost a total of ~2k USD, namely: (which will be much less if he trades his current PC in)
9800X3D — 429$
4090/5080 — "0"$ (he already owns it)
Thermalright PS120SE – 30$
ASrock or ASUS 8 PCB layer motherboard with a ALC1220 or ALC897 chipset (e.g.: ASUS X870-P, B850 Livemixer at minimum) — ~200$
2x KSM56E46BS8KM-16HA (can be difficult due to current market pricing) — 200–300$
AX1600I — 600$
990 PRO or SN8100 — ~200$
Corsair 5000D or some random cheap case which can accomodate the rig above — 20–200$
+
DAV3 — 60$
G515 Rapid TKL or Huntsman V3 — 169–209$
a non-USB headset of choice (can be anything for the time being, just something not routed through USB)
a non-USB microphone of choice (can be anything for the time being, just not routed through USB)
(lets disregard the display, even though a OLED would be a substantial upgrade; his 540Hz E-TN is enough)
Where, if it "fails", you get a great system upgrade.

There's also the discussion of his software tuning practices being terrible & leading to issues upon installation, which can be easily an issue. This can be a relatively easier endeavour as it's essentially free of charge (no necessary funds need to be invested, only time in finding what the issue is)
Whenever I see "I tried everything", I always assume that the user tried the absolutely worst possible tuning practices which get purported online as some 'holy grail' :)

Your 'suggestion' (vague claims) would either entail:
A) Paying for a company to analyse his power quality for a week/month/year & apply certain capacitors or inductors to filter out any noise incoming from the grid (which costs $$$$, though this depends on which company he hires, along with time spend on it)
(this also assumes the company he finds are able to fix his issue permanently, without any repercussions)
B) Move out with his family (logistical nightmare) & HOPE his next place will be a permanent fix for his potential power quality issues

I wonder which one is more feasible?

It costs much less to just rule out interference than you mention, just ask some friend or whoever you know to check it at their place or just go to some LAN and compare with other peoples game.
If it doesn't help, it costed you almost nothing, but some time to move it there and back and just LAN ticket.

Of course it shouldn't be first thing to try, but rather something that you do when you exhaust basic things.

Later, he moved back to his old house, where he currently lives (which does have proper grounding), and everything works normally again. He can dodge bullets, in Overwatch he can tank a crazy amount of damage, zero desync.

At least I don’t personally know anyone close to me who has no grounding, otherwise I could tell you for sure whether it’s that or not. But beyond that, this is the most common fix for many people, and I’ve read about it more than 20 times
Ridiculous.
Let me use the same anecdotal n=1 logic of you as well: I had no grounding on my sockets as well until half a year ago and none of those "issues" were a thing during my play time.

I appreciate your response, but a 4090 or 5080 for CS2 is really overkill. I play at a resolution of 1280x960... (Of course, I also tried higher ones to see if the problem was related to that). I even tried an AMD GPU 9070xt.
1.) There is no "overkill" in terms of hardware, if you want to be the best.
The 4090/5080 is bare minimum if you want to play this game at the lowest total system latency possible, especially when paired with a good +500Hz display.
2.) That RAM kit choice looks concerning. Provide a HWInfo or Asrock Timing Configurator screenshot of your current timing profile.

As I said, I'm getting +500 fps.
This problem arose. In CSGO, I was running at around 900fps at the time. I also fixed them with the Hz setting.
(Present-to-present) Frame rate is a irrelevant metric, latency is what matters.

It really has nothing to do with the hardware. As I said, I've had inferior computers in the past, but I've never had any problems with this.
You cannot claim that for certain, as the variables which I've discussed can still occur to you. :)
Have you ever ran CPU or RAM (IMC) stress testing software? For example: GSAT, RamTestPro, ycruncher, OCCT, P95?
You could be setting up your UEFI (colloquially referred to as 'BIOS') settings incorrectly.
You could've degraded your 13700K unknowingly due to incorrect settings.
You could be setting up Windows incorrectly.
Not to mention that you should be using wired USB peripherals & offload audio onto 3.5mm port (ideally no mic for least cycles taken up)

*but hardware these days is almost just plug and play.......... and a game like cs2. or valorant or fortnite shoud just run fine... without to mutch tweaking.
Modern hardware is the opposite of that.
It's much less plug & play since DDR4 due to the increased signal integrity requirements of higher clock rates.
valhalla wrote: ↑

* The only time it usually runs fine is when I change GPUs. And only the first time.
* also like the other forums most solutions are good for a few hours... or few minutes and then its back
This to me is a typical sign of some form of lingering instability, either in the IMC (DRAM related) or CPU itself.
I strongly suggest going with a X3D and side-band ECC UDIMMs route.

⦁ I'd love to try the power supply mentioned on this forum, but what's so different about it? I understand the components are more expensive and better.....
Switching frequency is moved into >1MHz region, much lower voltage ripple, excellent transient response & excellent EMC.
See Aris' review
Obviously, what I said is an experience from someone I know; since I don’t have it myself, I can’t guarantee it. However, you are very confident and you insult half the forum when almost all of us here don’t really know what causes these things or under what circumstances they happen.

Since you supposedly have the truth, about spending money on an expensive PSU, GPU, and RAM, I imagine it wouldn’t cost you anything to upload gameplay from each computer: one with the components you believe cause this and one with those that don’t. Then you can spit whatever “truth” you want.

If you don’t do this, you’re saying nothing but lies and something unverifiable, because according to you it’s easy to fix. And if it’s really that easy, upload gameplays with these expensive components and I’ll give you credit and there would be no reason not to believe you. On the contrary, your experience is exactly what you say it is.

Snake oil.

Nothing, he is either a troll or a guy from nvidia trying to convince you that you need to buy their 2000+€ GPUs to have a normal gameplay, ignore all his nonsense.

The only thing he said right is that a good PSU would reduce ripple - but guess what, ripple is caused by bad wall socket electricity in the first place...and any gold-tier PSU should easily filter that, so you don't need to have a platinum level PSU for 600€.

* What's particularly striking is that when I reinstall Windows... or when I install a different GPU, everything works fine the first time, but then the lag persists.
You haven't mentioned the exact components which you've used throughout the years, which opens up the room for the discussion of bad HW choices. This comment alone can be a red flag.

From your steam profile, I can see the following:
CASE : nzxt h1 v2 white
MOTHERBOARD : MSI MPG Z790I EDGE WIFI
CPU : Intel Core i7 13700K
CPU COOLER : NZXT liquid cooled
GRAPHIC CARD : GeForce RTX 3070 Inno
POWER : NZXT 850W
MONITOR : ASUS ROG Swift PG248QP 540HZ
KEYBOARD : DUCKY MECHA mini / Corsair K70 PRO wireless
MOUSE : zowie fk1+-b / Steelseries Rival / Razer Viper 8k / Steelseries Prime+ / Logitech g pro x superlight
MOUSEPAD : ZOWIE G-SR / HYPER X Fury-S / Ducky Shield L / Asus aimlab
AUDIO : Senheiser GSP 600 / Senheiser epos GSX 300 //// HyperX Cloud Alpha S Pro /// Senheiser epos H6PRO open / Corsair VIRTUOSO XT
I see 4 large issues here:
1.) Wireless peripherals are undesirable if your goal is latency-first and achieving lowest electromagnetic interference.
2.) No mention of exact DRAM timing profile & kit used
3.) No mention of exact power supply model. Are you referring to the NZXT C850?
4.) Severely underpowered GPU for a game such as CS2, which is even more of an issue as NVidia Reflex is not working as intended in that particular game

Buy a AM5-based X3D system with a Asrock/ASUS motherboard (8-layer minimum) and side-band ECC UDIMMs, such as these ones
A alternative is going for a AM4-based X3D system for a cheaper alternative, as 3200MT/s 2x8GiB DDR4 (side-band) ECC UDIMMs are easier to obtain.
Though, considering that you own a 13700K, you could buy a W680-based motherboard and stick to your current platform:
https://geizhals.de/?cat=mainboards&xf= ... omode=true
Namely, these motherboards: ASUS Pro WS W680-ACE (DDR5), ASrock W680D4U (DDR5), Gigabyte MW34-SP0 (DDR4)

Get a good PSU, such as the AX1600i.
Get a stronger GPU, e.g. a 4090 or 5080.

That should give you a good foundation for further assessments.
what a clown

Increased CPU overhead from more USB devices.
KB+M on USB is 'ideal' (the 'best' we can do with current hardware limitations when chasing lowest latency possible)
I don't know which port or which driver you should use, I haven't had the time to re-do my XHCI controller testing yet.
Sticking to default Microsoft ones for now is likely the 'safest' option.

Start by telling us what your UEFI settings are.
Send a screenshot of your current RAM profile will also be beneficial.
I suggest disabling the ALC4080 from your motherboard in UEFI & using the 3.5mm output of your XL2566X+.
Wired only peripherals, don't use a USB microphone.
