Weird "Mouse Trail" issue

i suddenly discovered that moving my mouse around on my black monitor has gaps in the mouse trail wtf is happening ?

reinstalled the driver, unpluged the monitor.... cant seem to fix it .... weird thing is i don't notic those gaps at 144hz though at 175 they are clearly visible all of a sudden. I thought its maybe frame skipping but all fotos i took with my phone showed nothing skipped.

i also tried to test with mousetester, but it doesnt sow any massive skips i'd recognize either

what the hell is this ?

Look simply like the "Stroboscopic Effect" to me:

If so, there's nothing to "fix."

It will require above 10,000 fps at 10,000 Hz to completely eliminate this effect, unless you wish to add intentional GPU-effect motion blur (one frametime of motion blur).

Does this bigger gap happen only after you haven't moved the mouse at all for a while? If yes, it could be due to USB power saving mode. Search for "USB selective suspend" and how to disable it. Worth a shot to see if it's indeed the problem.

Mice themselves can also have a built-in power saving mode. Especially wireless mice in order to save battery.

I would definitly have noticed this, if it were norm. The gaps were not there before !

This explains the mouse trial by itself (really nice read btw!) but not where thos gaps come from.
Im on relatively fresh install (2 days old) and i also can remember having this issue some time ago on my old 240hz g7 before. But back then it was fixed by some easy steps like switching the refresh rate or replugging stuff. this definitly was not there 18 hours ago

was my guess also, but it persists even with an old wired mouse. What seems really strange to me is that its only happening on 175hz and not on 144.... enhanced sync, vrr, vsync, framerate cap nothing seems to affect it

Make sure you don't have frameskipping at www.testufo.com/frameskipping ...

What Hz is your mouse? Increasing mouse Hz can help.

Erratic gaps can be a jitter effect between mouse Hz and display Hz.

im at 4k Hz, i took like 20 fotos with the frameskipping test yesterday night and no skipped frame.
i think that If it were microstutter from the mouse it should be:
1.) fixed by either changing mouse, or switching the hz on mouse, but neither does fix it.
2.) it should persist on 144hz aswell but doesnt

its also noticeable in fullscreen games e.g Starcraft Broodwar (don't judge me im an old man).

Hmmmm im considering reinstalling now, to see if that fixes it :/
but before il tweak around a little more and gonna report back ¯\_(ツ )_/¯

my second monitor is my old pg279Q which is overclockable to 165.
Turns out when il go to 165hz its visible on that one aswell + bonus of my distorted woman



but why is it fine at 144hz ... oO ...gonna read that paper now that u provided chief, thank you !

mmmm i do not know if what i am thinking is correct i am not that knowledgeable in this area but if you are interested can you try to download and install "https://mouseacceleration.com/" use it to make acceleration constant by making the sensitivity 1 a straight line
i am thinking the gap is because of a sudden increase in acceleration I might be wrong
also would mess around with
"Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Set up Mouse Keys"
with the top speed and acceleration combination here and see if it has any effect on that
In my own opinion, i think having the top speed set to the lowest
and acceleration to the highest would give the most consistent results

I was thinking it was from using a nonstandard refresh rate (not a multiple of 24 or 30)... now that you tested on another nonstandard refresh rate on a second monitor it does seem to be probable. I remember seeing registry edits for the mouse curve, and there were different ones for different refresh rates. Another possibility could be from exceeding the limitations of graphics cable and/or graphics ports. It could also just be a result of overclocking the monitors past their optimal specs.
